General Administration of Customs Announcement No. 158 of 2024 (Announcement on Adjusting the List of imported foods subject to the Administration of Examination and Approval of Entry Plant and Animal quarantine), the following is the content of the announcement:

In order to further implement the relevant requirements of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee on "improving the responsibility system for food and drug safety" and optimize the approval and administration of animal and plant quarantine for entry food, in accordance with the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine" and its implementing regulations and relevant provisions, after risk assessment, it is decided to adjust the list of imported foods subject to the approval and administration of entry and plant quarantine. The announcement is as follows:

1. The administration of quarantine examination and approval shall no longer be carried out on cured meat products, casings, dairy products, aquatic products and bird's nests for human consumption.

The above categories of imported food must come from countries (regions) that meet the requirements of assessment and review and overseas food production enterprises that have been registered by the General Administration of Customs, and the products must meet the relevant inspection and quarantine requirements.

3. Food that needs to be approved for entry by special permission shall still be approved for quarantine in accordance with the Administrative Measures for Approval of Entry Animal and Plant Quarantine.

4. The General Administration of Customs shall dynamically adjust the list of imported foods subject to the approval of entry animal and plant quarantine according to the assessment results of the safety risk status of imported food.

This announcement shall come into effect as of the date of promulgation.
